Lent:
An annual season beginning Ash Wednesday until Easter. These 40 days (excluding Sundays) are devoted to fasting and penitence in preparation to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Lent is a German word which means Spring. This fits well with our theme: "Renewal." We are asking God to bring renewal in our lives and to the world around us.
Lenten Pilgrimage:
A journey to follow Jesus for individuals, couples and families.
We will be handing out a Lenten guide. This will help you bring renewal to our city and beyond. I am asking God to bring renewal to 40 people outside our community in 40days.
1) For Lent, make room in your heart. Carve out time individually and as a family. Use the Lenten guide for direction. For families, you have either early morning, dinner or before bed. Carve out a day unique to Lent. Carve something out of your time to make this experience unique.
2) Carve something out of your diet. There is a unique relationship with our soul and stomach. Many use food to nurture both. By carving out some type of food, you are saying to Jesus, come and fill me. Be my substance.
3) Be a part of the Community conversation by viewing this blog each day, reading the scripture, and sharing about your personal experiences throughout the Lenten season.
NEW SERIES:
"Renewal: Walk the Lenten Pilgrimage"
This series will walk us through specific geographic locations in the Old Testament. For instance, the journey of Lent begins in Egypt. In Egypt there was a great cry and the Lord heard this cry. Egypt represents the cry of the people. The journey begins here. We will then move to Red Sea (2/17); Mt. Sinai (2/24); Jericho (3/2); Canaan (3/9); Babylon (3/16) and finally, Jesus in Jerusalem on Easter Sunday. You will get a great understanding on how God is forming a people to bring his goodness to the world (1 Peter 2:9).
